Comfy Desktop manages more than one ComfyUI installation from one launcher. It is the official local desktop route, distinct from Windows Portable, a manual Python environment, or the hosted Comfy Cloud service. Check current platform requirements before downloading; the official pages cover Windows 10+, Apple silicon macOS 13+, and Linux. Linux package and source-build requirements differ; follow the current platform guide.

Installation

1. Open the official Windows guide, macOS guide, or Linux guide. Use its download route rather than a third-party mirror.
2. Windows: run the downloaded .exe installer and launch the app. macOS: open the .dmg, move Comfy Desktop into Applications and launch it. If macOS blocks the first launch, follow the official System Settings instructions. Linux: install the official .deb or AppImage package as described in its platform guide; do not disable Electron sandboxing as a routine installation step.
3. On the Welcome screen create an installation, then open a starter workflow. Check which instance is running before adding custom nodes or models.

Important distinction

Removing Comfy Desktop removes the launcher, not necessarily installations, shared models, outputs, settings, or logs. Back up workflows and note custom paths before cleanup. Legacy Desktop migration has its own official guide; do not overwrite the old installation to test migration.

Verification and limits

Confirm the app opens a local ComfyUI instance and a basic template loads. This is a source-based guide, not a recorded installation test on your computer. Installer layout and requirements may change; use the official pages linked above for current downloads.
