Qwen Image 2.1 in ComfyUI: models, workflows and release boundaries

Identify the release before selecting a workflow

Qwen records September 20, 2026 as the release date of Qwen-Image-2.1. Generation and editing share a model. The 7B description refers to the visual generation component, not the combined memory footprint of the complete pipeline; the architecture also includes a Qwen3-VL 8B encoder and an RGBA VAE. Q01

The ComfyUI v0.37.0 release includes native support. Its release API timestamp is September 21 at 07:35:01 UTC. Keep a model announcement, a code commit and a packaged release as separate dates when recording provenance. Q03

Choose a task, not an arbitrary screenshot

Begin with the official text-to-image template for generation, the edit template for existing images, or the background-removal template for extraction. These are separate resources even when their embedded workflow identifiers look identical. Template settings describe a particular saved graph; they are not universal optimum settings. Q05 Q06 Q07

Establish the first baseline

Select a complete component set from the file guide. Check the running application rather than a different installation on the same computer. Import a copy of the appropriate template and change only the prompt initially. Save the graph, original output, application revision and model-file provenance together. Increase resolution, add references and change precision separately so that a regression can be attributed to a specific change.

Preserve an earlier Qwen setup

Keep the old workflow intact. Replacing only the diffusion-model selector does not establish compatibility with the old encoder, VAE, conditioning graph or LoRA. Build a separate 2.1 baseline and then transfer task inputs and prompts. Delay optional accelerators until that baseline works.

Check the license for this release

The release carries the Qwen Research License. It defines non-commercial use as research or evaluation and calls for a separate commercial license for commercial use. No minimum-VRAM figure, speed ranking or quantization quality score has been measured by this site.
